Beaches Enjoy the sun and beautiful scenery provided by the Sea of Cortés hugging the sandy shores of Puerto Peñasco. Playa Bonita, Sandy Beach, El Mirador, Las Conchas, and La Cholla are some of the principal beaches where you can take in a great day of sun, sand, and sea.
Pinacate Reserve and Schuk Toak Visitors Center Just north of Puerto Peñasco is the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, a protected natural area designated as one of the 13 wonders in Mexico, where one can enjoy walks through the dunes, a visit to the maar craters, or even camp. The Schuk Toak Visitors Center is an environmentally friendly construction providing information on the history of the area, as well as the flora and fauna throughout the Reserve.
CEDO CEDO is an anagram of the organization’s name in Spanish (Center for Desert and Ocean Studies), which provides educational and conservation programs about the Northern Gulf of California and its coastline.
Sunset Cruises A visit to Puerto Peñasco would not be complete without having delighted in a magnificent sunset at sea. We invite you to enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the Sea of Cortés aboard one of the various ships available at the docks near the Old Port. Come enjoy Fiesta, dinner, cocktails and fun surrounded by the natural beauty of an astounding sunset.
Bird Island Isla San Jorge, or Bird Island, is actually a small group of islands located 43 km from Puerto Peñasco (about 23 nautical miles). An area of tremendous biological importance given its diversity of wildlife including birds of various species, sea lions and dolphins, Bird Island is a unique natural shelter. Boat tours available in harbor area (on the way to the Old Port). CEDO also leads guided tours to the island.
