
3rd Annual Puerto Peñasco Deep Sea Fishing Tournament
Rules and Regulations
The following are the rules and regulations for the fishing tournament.
The tournament will take place on Saturday May 8th and Sunday May 9th.
The tournament will begin at 6:00 am on Saturday and 6:00 am on Sunday.
There will be a Boat Captain’s meeting at Balboas Restaurant on Friday May 7th. at 4pm.
RULES
1. The tournament is open to all ages and sexes.
2. The tournament is open to all fishermen who register properly and to those who agree to follow all of the tournament rules and the attached regulations by law. Also, fishermen are required to follow all of the judges regulations and compete with honor and justice. Please respect all species of fish. It is your responsability to help maintain the sustainability and reproduction of natures species without harm. By being registered in the tournament, all participants agree to read and to follow all the rules and regulations and are obligated to keep all of their content in mind. The maximum amount of fishing poles/ line is limited to one per participant.
3. The species to catch are: Grouper, Pinto Bass and Leopard Grouper.
4. The weights of the catch are: Grouper over 40 lbs; Pinto Bass over 20 lbs and Leopard Grouper over 8lbs.
5. Registration fee is $ 120 dlls per person and you will receive a tournament t-shirt and cap. Once the tournament begins, the registration fee becomes NON REFUNDABLE. The payment of the registration fee will be in cash. 50% of the total money received at registration will go to a Jack Pot that will be spread as follows:
5.1. 50% will go to the highest weighed Grouper.
5.2. 30% will go to the highest weighed Pinto Bass.
5.3. 20% will go to the highest weighed Leopard Grouper.
In the event that we secure sponsorship for a brand new car as the first grand prize in the Grouper category, and we are able to meet all the insurance requirements for the automobile, and we have a winner, the prize corresponding to 5.1 will be for the 2nd highest weighed Grouper.
6. Everyone on the boat must pay the $ 120.00 dlls registration fee. If anyone on the boat has not paid the $ 120.00 dlls registration fee, the boat will be disqualified for that day.
7. Fishermen must have a current and legal sports fishing permit
8. Individual permits can be obtained at the Fishing Regulations Department at the City Hall or call (638) 388 5085 or (638) 383 2060 to get directions. You can also request a permit at “SAFE MARINA” on the 7th, 8th, and 9th of May.
9. It is permitted to use a monofilament line of maximum 200 lbs resistance. You may also use a rod and reel of your choice, The use of an electric reel is prohibited.
10. You may use jigs and hook with bait. The use of a hand line and hook to bring the fish to the boat is permitted.
11. Under the judges decision, any fish may be opened to verify there has been no introduction of objects that would increase the weight
12. All fish must be at the weigh station no later than 6:00 pm on Saturday and 4:00 pm on Sunday. No excuses. Verify the time of day with the judges.
13. There will be a champion declared for each species. The highest weight of the species fish will win. In case of a tie, the final decision will be to the fisherman who registered his fish at the weigh station first.
14. For the safety of all we will have water surveillance by the Marines, the Harbor Police and Sagarpa.
15. In the event of a mechanical problem on the boat, it is not permited to transfer the fish to another boat.
16. Any protest or dispute must be presented in hand writing to the judges. Only one person that represents the boat can file the report. It must be done the same day as the infraction.
17. Pre-registration will be at the Rocky Point Convention and Visitors Bureau. It is located on the main Blvd. Benito Juárez y calle 11 local 2., phone number (638) 388 0444 or 388 0446, e-mail adress rgonzalez@cometorockypoint.com, pvelazquez@cometorockypoint.com. On Friday May 7th and Saturday May 8th, you may register at SAFE MARINA which is located in the harbor.
19. The judges will consist of 3 people and their results are final. Please be mindfull of the judges decisions. Please do not intoduce any 3rd parties opinions.
20. Only one captain per boat is allowed.
